Reep Green Solutions is an environmental charity that has been helping people in Waterloo Region live sustainably for 20 years. Our programs on home energy efficiency, water conservation, healthy yards, and waste reduction empower participants to take action. In short, we work together with the community on practical solutions for addressing and adapting to climate change. Position Summary



 



 



 



 



The Tree Planter will enjoy an experiential learning environment working as a valued member of the tree stewardship team. The role will primarily focus on Reep Green Solution’s Backyard Tree Planting Program, which helps residents get the right tree in the right place with the right care. The role may also extend to other green infrastructure activities related to the Tree Nursery, Tree Trust, and stewardship events. This position requires someone who is detail-oriented, has excellent customer service, interpersonal skills and enjoys working outdoors.  



 



 



 



 



 



 



 



 



 



Reporting to: Manager, Tree and Winter Maintenance Programs 



 



 



 



 



Hours: 5 days/week, hours will vary, depending on the tree planting schedule; Typical hours will range from 30 hours per week up to a maximum of 37.5 hours/week 



 



 



 



 



Term: April 21st to Aug 30th 2025, with the possibility of extension pending funding  



 



 



 



 



Hourly Wage: $20.90 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities



 



 



 



 



  • Conduct tree planting at scheduled locations as part of Backyard Tree Planting (BYTP)program  



  • Adhere to planting guide manual provided at the start of the season and follow procedure outlined in training video  



  • Water and mulch newly planted trees  



  • Leave planting and care guide in customer’s mailbox or accessible location 



  • Operating and maintaining planting equipment to ensure its longevity  



  • Keep customer records organized, taking detailed notes when appropriate  



  • Represent Reep Green Solutions at various community engagement events 



  • Support the development of engagement materials for the Community Canopy project



  • Participate in door-to-door surveying as part of Reep’s Community Canopy project   



  • Take photographs of newly planted trees and shrubs  



  • Participate in training as provided  



  • Water and manage BYTP tree stock at seasonal staging site  



  • Sow seeds in containers and transplant seedlings at our native tree nursery 



  • Provide assistance with inventory counting and tracking of tree species  



  • Attend weekly and monthly meetings as needed 



  • In addition to these responsibilities, other tasks may be added as required by the organization.

We’re looking for someone with: 



 



 



 



 



  • Tree planting experience in urban environments and/or a diploma/degree in urban forestry, environmental studies or related field 



  • Access to a vehicle with a full G driver’s license, proof of insurance with a clean driving record 



  • Ideally current Emergency First Aid CPR certification 



  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs  



  • Ability to work in extreme weather outdoors doing physically demanding work 



  • Steel toe safety boots are required 



  • Customer service experience  



  • Excellent attention to detail  



  • Experience working or volunteering with a not-for-profit organization  



  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to environmental issues  



  • Courteous and cooperative attitude

This role is partially funded through Government of Canada funding; To be eligible for this position you MUST meet the following criteria:  



 



 



 



 



  • Must be between the ages of 15-30 on the start date of the job 



  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN), AND 



  • You must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or a person that has been granted refugee status in Canada
