Customers truly mean everything at Dumfries Mutual Insurance Company. In fact, they are owned by their policyholders and have a long history as the oldest farm mutual insurance company in Ontario after being founded in 1856. There are more than just words behind the Four Fathers Brewing Company’s slogan: ‘Stand for something good.’ Since opening its doors after painstakingly refurbishing the former Simplicity Washing Machine Factory in Hespeler Village, this amazing company – created out of a strong bond between a group of friends who love their community – has brought this slogan to life in not only the quality of the many products they produce, but their commitment to community through their involvement in countless events and causes. Throughout several phases of growth, Four Fathers Brewing Company has continued to maintain their goals, including hiring more staff, and celebrating innovative and new ideas. This includes working alongside local artists to create a cultural ‘hub’ to spark creative thinking.  Their efforts are well documented on their vibrant social media platforms.

 

Reid Chocolates Candy & Nut Shop

Traditional comes to mind when you think of Reid Chocolates Candy & Nut Shop, a staple in downtown Cambridge since 1960. But the shop, now owned by brother and sister team of Ted Drew-Smith and Carrie Peart, continues to provide amazing handmade products while managing to keep pace with dietary trends and technology via social media and e-commerce. As well, a major expansion in 2018 with the opening of two more stores has solidified Reid Chocolates foundation as an important player in this community with a commitment to great customer service and quality products that has never wavered.

 

Seasons Cambridge Retirement Community

Helping others is important for Seasons Cambridge Retirement Community. Through several initiatives to assist seniors in general, such as earmarking a portion of its community relations budget to assist Food Banks Canada which since 2016 has seen more than $160,000 raised. They also launched a volunteer-based program in 2018 called SENIORISITY (Seniors Generosity) which provides treats to hospital workers, and sponsors families in need. As well, they assist the Royal Canadian Legion through its Pennies for Poppies. Technology has also played a big role at Seasons Cambridge, which now utilizes video technology and various platforms to increase communication and teamwork between staff, residents and their families which has been vital during this ongoing pandemic.
