Communications Assistant - Contract



Hybrid Remote in Waterloo Region

Reep Green Solutions is an environmental charity that helps people in Waterloo Region live sustainably. We work to empower people with the practical tools, knowledge and capacity for action to make sustainable living the norm. Our current focus areas are home energy efficiency, water conservation, green landscaping and waste reduction. In short, we work together with the community on practical solutions for addressing and adapting to climate change.

The role of the Communications Assistant



In this role, you will work closely with our Communications Manager to achieve organizational communications goals. You will use your knowledge of social media and marketing to support Reep communications goals in 2024.



Responsibilities:



  • Create unique social media content (images, video, audience engagement) to increase interest in sustainable living programs and services.

  • Use design software to create attractive marketing materials and advertising for programs (print, online etc.)

  • Work with the communications manager to implement social media and communications strategy

  • Use organizational skills to track major campaign key performance indicators (SEO, social media engagement, event participation, website metrics etc.)  

  • Assist with planning virtual and in-person community-focused events  

  • Attend community events to host interactive information sessions on programs and services to the community  

  • Collect stories from participants to use in writing charitable giving language, events promotion, marketing materials and annual report  

  • Write SEO blog posts on climate action topics  

  • Assist with upkeep of website including updating content, adding events, optimizing pages and researching/implementing best practices  

  • In addition to these responsibilities, other tasks may be added as required by the organization



Skills/Qualifications:



  • Currently enrolled in a degree or college diploma program in Marketing, Communications or a related field

  • Alignment with environmental organizations/sustainability knowledge & experience is an asset

  • Understanding of media relations and digital media strategies

  • Proficient in MS Office; familiarity with design software (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign)

  • Solid editing and researching skills

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills 

  • Graphic Design Experience 

  • Online marketing and social media experience 



This role is partially funded through Eco Canada; To be eligible for this position you MUST meet the following criteria:



  • Student currently enrolled at a university or college in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art or Math (STEAM) and Business

  • You must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or student with Refugee status (International students on work permit are not eligible)

  • There is no age restriction, and you don’t have to be enrolled formally in your school’s co-op program to participate



Term: This is a 16 week placement from January 2nd  2024 – April 19th 2024 with the possibility of extension dependent on funding.



Salary: Hourly rate for the role is $19.95 per hour, set to reflect our commitment to providing a living wage for all of our team members.



Hours: 35 hours per week, this role is a hybrid role with flexible hours. We are a virtual workplace with some in person events and meetings on occasion.
