Cambridge Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards

The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce's vision is to help foster economic growth in Cambridge and we believe that a strong and vibrant private sector is the key to a better quality of life for all our citizens. It's our role to recognize the leaders of our business community and acknowledge their services, their accomplishments impact all of us in Cambridge.

Award winners of the Business Excellence Awards are businesses or individuals that have demonstrated a significant and sustained commitment to positive business development, economic growth and diversity within our city.

Many of our businesses achieve levels of success that garners recognition from their peers. The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards recognizes businesses and individuals for their special achievements and/or contributions to the community.

Eligibility
All Cambridge businesses or non-resident Chamber Members are eligible, both small and large.

Awards
This program provides an opportunity for the Cambridge business community to recognize achievements through the presentation of the awards.

In determining nominations, all businesses, small or large should be considered. These would include: retail, manufacturing, transportation, hospitality, wholesale, service or education.

Names of the winners will be revealed at the awards presentation on Thursday, March 24, 2011 in the following categories.

Business Of The Year – Under 50 Employees
This prestigious award is given to a good corporate citizen who exhibits a competitive edge through technological innovation in one or more of three following areas: Customer Service, Workplace Environment, Products and Services, Growth in Business, Employee Retention.

Business Of The Year – Over 50 Employees
This prestigious award is given to a good corporate citizen who exhibits a competitive edge through technological innovation in one or more of three following areas: Customer Service, Workplace Environment, Products and Services, Growth in Business, Employee Retention.

Personal Business Achievement Award
This award recognizes an individual who makes a sacrifice of time, shares talent towards improving the betterment of the Cambridge community through their corporate involvement. This is a person who is an outstanding volunteer and visionary leader.

New Venture of the Year
This award is presented to a new or existing business that through innovation of design and technology has significantly improved the esthetics and functionality of their operating environment.

Keith Taylor Memorial Award
For Excellence in Community Contribution through Leadership, ingenuity, creativity and service for a Non-Profit or Charitable Organization serving Cambridge and The Township of North Dumfries. Specific Criteria for the award include:

  • Should be an employee or volunteer of a Cambridge based Non Profit or Charity.
  • Should have served the organization in extraordinary fashion.
  • Should have made a difference in the organizations annual outcomes.
  • Should be acknowledged for effort, ingenuity, creativity, and service above and beyond.

Breakthrough Award
A special award not always presented, Breakthrough recognizes an extraordinary local event or people accomplishing extraordinary things which benefit the community in unique and meaningful ways. The award may be given to an individual, a group, an organization or, a business. In general terms the award recognizes a significant accomplishment that benefits the entire City. Specific Criteria for the award include:

  • Significantly improving Cambridge image.
  • Dramatically and positively impacting the entire community.
  • An accomplishment eclipsing normal individual and company boundaries.
  • Creating meaningful new opportunities for business.
  • Event or activity culminates in the current year.

WOWCambridge.com Customer Service Award
Each month we have recognized an individual, who has gone above and beyond, providing extraordinary service in everyday situations. These individuals and the businesses they work for exemplify service excellence, and most are completely surprised to be awarded, for what they believe is merely "doing their job". These stories are inspiring and heartfelt, with the customers and clients unable to say enough about how well they were treated. Our Grand winner and all award nominees are raising the bar, and increasing the standard of service in our community. This award is presented to one of the monthly winners as the Grand Award Winner.

Sunrise Rotary Scholarship Award
The Rotary Club of Cambridge Sunrise established The Rotary Scholarship Award which will be awarded annually to post-secondary students in the Region who have demonstrated a combination of academic merit, exemplary humanitarian service and established financial need. This award is presented to an exceptional student chosen by the Sunrise Rotary Scholarship Committee, selected by the Rotary Club of Cambridge Sunrise

Lifetime Achievement Award
This award recognizes individuals that have contributed significantly to the ongoing prosperity, vibrancy and economic growth of our community. This can be through their service to the community through many avenues, including committee work, development investment, contribution through the Chamber's or City's various opportunities for economic development. Our future prosperity will be measured by our ability to grow, attract and bring added value through employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Environment Award – Excellence in Energy Conservation
This award recognizes a business that embraces sustainable best practices and outstanding programs designed to maintain, protect and promote a healthy environment. The nominee demonstrates success in the areas of energy use reduction, energy alternatives, and/or the adoption, implementation or adherence to environmentally friendly business practices on a company wide basis. Within the parameters of this nomination, the judges will be looking in particular for a company of strength:

  • Engaged in specific best practices to promote a healthy environment through reduced use of energy in business operations.
  • Embracing a systematic program of improvements and procedures to promote a conservation culture.
  • Evidence supporting active engagement of employees in cultivating good energy saving habits at work, at home and in their community.
  • Demonstrating environmental stewardship and innovation in the past year.

Chair's Award
The Chair's Award recognizes an outstanding organization or individual who makes an exceptional effort which goes above and beyond the call of duty in any area of business and/or community development.

Golf Tournaments

The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce organizes two golf tournament per year. The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce & Rogers Golf Classic is held in June at the Galt Country Club and the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce Fall Scramble is held in September each year.

Annual Golf Show and Business After Hours

The Annual Golf Show takes place every April as part of the Business After Hours Series. The Golf Show attracts over 500 attendees and over 50 exhibitors.




Chamber After 5 – regional tradeshow

The Annual Chamber After 5 – regional tradeshow takes place every September as part of the Business After Hours Series. The joint tradeshow with the Guelph Chamber, Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber and Cambridge Chamber attracts over 1200 attendees and over 200 exhibitors year, providing an excellent marketing opportunity to showcase your goods and services to fellow members as well as to the public.


Salute to Small Business

The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce celebrates the contributions that Small Businesses make to our communities each October.


State of the City Address

The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce and the City of Cambridge host the Annual State of the City Address each October.


Annual Mayor's Breakfast

The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce invites Mayor Doug Craig and two other area Mayor’s to the Annual Mayor’s Breakfast each December.
